Anderson Joes News Release
MACON, Ga. - Continuing their impressive play under new manager Kash Beauchamp, the Joes beat the Macon Music, 4-1, on Monday for their third win in four games since Beauchamp took over as Anderson skipper.
Behind early offense, stellar starting pitching and great defense, the Joes beat the Music for the first time on the road this season.
Brandon Carter started the game off with a bang for the Joes, hitting a leadoff home run on just the second pitch from Macon starter Nick Utley. It was Carter's third home run of the season and his second leadoff bomb of the year, all of them coming on the road.
Richard Quihuis-Bell then tagged a two-run shot in the top of the second inning - his second homer of the season - to make it 3-0. Tanner Rogers later drove Heath Keel in with an RBI single in the third inning to give Anderson a 4-0 advantage.
The four runs stood up thanks to Daniel Howard's best start of the season.
Making his fourth start for the Joes, "Duck" Howard lasted seven innings, allowing one run, four hits, two walks and striking out three.
Macon's only run came off the bat of Ismael Castro, who drove in Casey Garrison with an RBI double in the bottom of the fourth.
Howard needed exactly 100 pitches to mow through the Music lineup - an offense that entered the game second in the league in batting average, runs, home runs and walks.
With the win, Howard improved to 2-1. Utley dropped to 2-1 with the loss for Macon.
Tyler Addison pitched two scoreless, hitless innings in relief for Anderson to notch his team-leading third save of the season.
The Joes had previously gone 0-3 in their only trip to Macon, combining for just two runs and 12 hits in 23 innings of baseball in their first visit.
The four-run, 11-hit effort in this game alone helped give Anderson its second win in a row, pulling the Joes to within 3 games of first place.
Tuesday, Anderson and Macon tango again, with probable starters Ronald Ball (2-1) for the Joes and Ross Stout (7-3) for the Music.
First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
