Joerger to Lead the Charge for a Second Straight Year in CBA All-Star Game

Cedar Rapids, IA (January 12, 2004) River Raiders ownership knew what they were doing when they hired Coach Dave Joerger as the head coach to lead Cedar Rapids River Raiders in their 2004 inaugural season. Since the Dakota Wizards joined the Continental Basketball Association (CBA) in 2001-2002 season, Joerger has earned five CBA Coach of the Month awards and led the Wizards to the CBA Championship ( ‚¬â„¢01- ‚¬â„¢02).

On Sunday January 11, 2004, the CBA named their coaches for the 2003 ‚¬" 2004 CBA All-Star Game. Coach Joerger will be coaching in his second consecutive CBA All-Star Classic, after leading the National Conference team victory in 2003. Head Coaching positions for the All-Star Game were awarded to the Coach with the highest quarter-point averages from all games played through Saturday, January 10, 2003.

Joerger was named head coach of the Wizards in 2000 after serving as an assistant coach and general manager for 3 years with the organization. During the 2000-2001 season with Dakota, which at the time was a member of the International Basketball Association (IBA), Joerger was named the IBA Coach of the Year for leading the Wizards to the league title and posting the best record in the regular season (30-10). The Wizards then moved on to the CBA for the 2001-2002 season and the Wizards posted a league best 26-14 regular season record and Joerger, at 28, became the youngest coach in the CBA's 56-year history to win a league title.

During the 2002-2003 season the Wizards again posted the best regular season record at 31-14 and Joerger was named Coach of the Month 2 out of 4 months before falling in the conference finals.

The River Raiders will start its inaugural 30 game regular season (15 home games) in April of 2004 at the U.S. Cellular Center in downtown Cedar Rapids.
