
Joel Martin Selected as the UHL's Southern Sports Supply Goaltender of the Year

Kalamazoo, MI- The Kalamazoo Wings, proud members of the United Hockey League, announce that goaltender Joel Martin has been selected as the UHL's Southern Sports Supply Goaltender of the Year.
Martin's rookie campaign has been full of accolades. The netminder established the UHL's record for most shutouts in a season (9) and led the league in Goals Against Average (2.20) and Save Percentage (0.921).
The native of Three Hills, Alberta took home the K-Wings' Kalamazoo Gazette Most Valuable Player, as well as earned league recognition by being selected to the UHL's All-Rookie and All-Star First Team.
During the season, Martin received Southern Sports Supply Goaltender of the Week Awards on three separate occasions. Martin also received the Southern Sports Supply Goaltender and Easton Rookie of the Month for November.
Martin's dominating play earned him a trip to the 2006 UHL All-Star Classic, where he started for Team Gatorade.
The league's top goaltender in the regular season has kept up his stellar play in the post-season. Martin leads all playoff goaltenders in goals against average (1.00), save percentage (0.956) and shutouts (2).
Martin becomes the first K-Wing to earn the top goaltending honor in the league.
Kalamazoo's "Destination: Colonial Cup" will continue this Friday, May 5th, as the K-Wings host the Rockford IceHogs at Wings Stadium for a 7:30 p.m. face-off.
All fans that attend Friday's night Game One will receive a FREE Pom-Pom courtesy of Fed-Ex Kinkos'. The K-Wings will also be giving away $500 to the K-Wings fan that shows the most spirit. Fans are encouraged to wear face-paint or find other ways to show how much of a K-Wings fanatic they really are.
Game two of the series will also be played at Wings Stadium on Saturday (5/6) at 7:30 p.m. Just like in Game One, the K-Wings will be giving away another $500 to the biggest K-Wings fanatic.
Tickets for the playoffs are available by calling the Wings Stadium Ticket Office at (269) 345-5101, or stopping by during regular business hours of 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Friday or on Saturday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Fans can also order "E-Tickets" online through www.ticketmaster.com.
Fans that want to watch all the K-Wings road games against Rockford, can come to the Icehouse Bar and Grille, located in the upper level of The Annex.
