Joe Shaughnessy Named Pioneers GM

(Wilkes-Barre)Pioneers owner Cosmo DeNicola has named Joe Shaughnessy the General Manager of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers. "Joe is going to be an awesome GM. He's a football guy, a local man and a very experienced professional sports team manager. His relationship with Coach Ingold goes back to college together. They make a great football office and football operations team."

Shaughnessy has been acting as the interim general manager since October and he spent last season as the Assistant General Manager and Director of Sales. Joe's sports management career began in 1999 with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Red Barons where he was the Director of Ticket Sales.

"I'm looking forward to an electrifying 2008 season. We have a lot of great plans in the works. I want to make this season the best year of Pioneers football for all of our fans," said Shaughnessy, "This has been a lifetime dream and I'm very happy Como and Janet have given me this opportunity."

Our relationship goes back to our school days at IUP in 1983." said Pioneers Head Coach Rich Ingold, "He's an honest hard working guy, who I enjoy working with on a daily basis. There are a lot of new and exciting things going on in the Pioneers' organization. I love how our front office is thinking out of the box."

Joe has been a PIAA football official for the last 17 seasons. He is a past president for the Scranton Chapter, in addition to being an Executive Board member for several seasons. He also volunteers his time as a committee member for the Scranton Lions' Dream Game, benefiting the local blind association.

Joe is a graduate of West Scranton High School. He received a BS in Business Administration majoring in Marketing from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

He resides in Taylor with his wife Belinda and their two daughters Katelyn and Kelsey.
