Fargo-Moorhead Jets News Release
Fargo (ND) Matt Moreland (Grand Forks, ND) scored twice and Ryan Cramer (International Falls, MN) added a goal and an assist to lead the Fargo-Moorhead Jets (11-3-0) to a 4-2 road victory over the Billings Bulls on Oct. 29.
The win gave the FM Jets a split of their weekend trip to Montana, which began with a 4-0 shutout at Bozeman the night before. The victory also ended a season high three-game losing streak for the FM Jets, which had come after the team's season opening ten game win streak.
Against Billings, the FM Jets used two power play goals and held a 37-22 shots on goal advantage to beat the Bulls. The Jets -who have struggled on the power play this season - have found success on the man advantage versus Billings, scoring five times in three games this season against the Bulls.
Fargo North High School senior Elliot Okland made 20 saves to earn his first win of the season in goal, and his third in his two-year career.
Fargo-Moorhead has won nine consecutive games against Billings dating back to last season.
The Jets started the Montana trip in Bozeman on Oct. 28 in a match up against the West Division leading Icedogs. Bozeman entered the game on a 10-game winning streak of their own (now at 12 after the weekend), with one of the most feared special team units in the North American Hockey League.
It would be Bozeman's special teams that would cause the damage on this night, as the Icedogs scored three power play goals, and added one short-handed to win 4-0. Bozeman finished 3-4 on the man advantage.
While the FM Jets did outshoot Bozeman 28-27, the Jets were mostly limited to long shots and dump-ins as Matt Dalton earned the shutout for Bozeman. It marked the first time the Jets had been shutout since Dec. 2, 2004.
The loss also put the Jets on a three-game losing streak, which they ended the next night in Billings.
Better Record, One Year Later
If the FM Jets are going return to the National Tournament, they are definitely following the foot print of last year's team. In fact, this season's version of the FM Jets is a step ahead. Through 15 games, the 2004-2005 Jets were 10-3-1.
In 2003-2004, the FM Jets were 9-6-0.
Tough Time Versus Above .500% Teams
While the FM Jets lead the Central Division with an 11-3-0 record, they have struggled in their games against above .500% teams. The FM Jets are just 1-3-0 against teams with an above .500% entering the game.
Jets Announce Trade
The Fargo-Moorhead Jets finalized a trade late last week, acquiring a highly sought after Canadian defensemen, in exchange for two veteran defenseman of their own.
The Jets' picked up 6-0, 180 pound Ryan Adams from the Manitoba Junior Hockey League's Southeast Blades, in exchange for Andrew Hasbargen and Cory Nigbur.
Adams - a native of Deloraine, MB - had 6 assists and 30 penalty minutes in 10 games with the Blades. The FM Jets actually picked Adams up in Bismarck on the way to the team's games in Montana this weekend, and were able to utilize his services both nights.
Used on a regular shift, Adams netted his first point with the Jets when he earned an assist in the team's 4-2 win at Billings on Saturday night.
