Fargo-Moorhead Jets News Release
Fargo (ND) As one of only two undefeated teams in the North American Hockey League the Fargo-Moorhead Jets will try to extend their season opening winning streak this weekend when they face the expansion Southern Minnesota Express in a home and home series.
The Jets (3-0-0) host Southern Minnesota (1-1-0) on Friday night at 7:05pm at the Carlson Coliseum, with the first 250 fans receiving a photo booklet. After the game, the teams will then head for Owatonna, MN for a game Saturday night.
After a lethargic start to the schedule, which saw the Jets play only three times over the first 20 days of the season, FM begins a stretch where the will play 11 games in 23 days starting this weekend.
"It'll be nice to get into a regular rhythm, up until now this (schedule) has felt like a football one" said head coach Chad Johnson.
On Friday night the Jets will be trying to extend a 9-game winning streak at the Coliseum, dating back to last season. In addition, they will attempt to keep their defense dominance going. In three games, the Jets have only allowed two goals with goaltender B.J. O'Brien (Lakeville, MN) compiling a NAHL-best 98% save percentage.
Southern Minnesota is coming off a franchise-opening weekend split, winning at Springfield 2-1 but losing to North Iowa 2-4 last weekend. The Express, playing in their first season, are owned by names familiar to NHL fans including Los Angelas Kings head coach Andy Murray and professional players Rob Blake and Glenn Murray.
The Express's first-ever home game will come on Saturday night versus the Jets.
While this weekend will mark the first-ever official meeting between the teams, the squads did face one another in a preseason game on Sept. 10. Southern Minnesota skated away with a 5-2 victory at a practice rink in Owatonna in the exhibition.
Thirsty Thursday Next Week!
The FM Jets will hold their first Thirsty Thursday of the season next Thursday night when they face the Helena Bighorns at the Coliseum. All fans 21 & over are welcome to come to the arena and enjoy 50% all beer products at Ace's Tavern.
The FM Jets are the 2005 Borne Cup Champions and are entering their third season as members of the North American Hockey League. The NAHL is the nation's largest Junior A hockey league and is now in its 30th year of operation.
Jets home games are played at the John E. Carlson Coliseum in Fargo, ND. All games are broadcast at STAR 103.9 and fmjets.com.
