Lancaster JetHawks News Release

LANCASTER, Calif. - The Lancaster JetHawks used another big offensive outburst to take down Lake Elsinore, 13-7, Thursday night to complete a series sweep of the Storm. The JetHawks used four home runs to win their fourth in a row and for the seventh time in nine games.

Lake Elsinore (17-18, 51-54) jumped in front with two runs in the top of the first, but Lancaster (21-14, 54-51) answered in the bottom of the inning. The JetHawks scored four, taking the lead on a Joel Diaz two-run double.

Lancaster used a pair of home runs in the fourth inning to stretch the lead to six. Max George led off the inning with a blast to straightaway centerfield, and Colton Welker added a two-run shot. Welker's two knocks extended his hitting streak to 12 games.

The JetHawks were in front, 8-2, when the Storm made a run. Lake Elsinore scored five in a row to make it a one-run game, but that was as close as things got.

Brandon Gold (8-6) worked into the sixth to earn his eighth win, tying the California League lead. Lake Elsinore's Emmanuel Ramirez (5-4) allowed nine runs, but only five were earned, in a losing effort.

Two more home runs helped the JetHawks add to their lead late. Wes Rogers went deep in the seventh, and Vince Fernandez hit a three-run inside-the-park home run in the eighth inning. Fernandez led the way with four runs batted in, and his inside-the-park homer was the team's first in 2018.

Lancaster scored 38 runs in a three-game sweep of Lake Elsinore, the team's second sweep of the season. The JetHawks are now three games above .500 for the first time this year.

The JetHawks go for a fifth win in a row as the six-game homestand continues Friday night. Lancaster opens up a three-game series with the Visalia Rawhide. Lefty Ty Culbreth (5-4) takes the hill in the opener. First pitch is set for 6:35 pm at The Hangar.
