Lancaster JetHawks News Release

RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. - After sweeping Rancho Cucamonga in Lancaster last weekend, the JetHawks were swept by the Quakes at LoanMart Field after falling Sunday afternoon, 5-2. The JetHawks scored the first two runs of the game, but were held to just three hits after.

Lancaster (30-20, 63-57) opened the game with three hits in the first inning. Manny Melendez led off with a single, and Alan Trejo clubbed a two-run home run two batters later. Tyler Nevin followed with a two-out single, but the JetHawks had just three hits over the next eight innings.

Brandon Gold (9-7) faced the minimum through the first three innings, but gave up two runs in the fourth. With the game tied, 2-2, in the sixth inning, Gold gave up an RBI single to Donovan Casey that put Rancho Cucamonga (36-14, 71-49) on top for good.

Gold took the loss despite turning in a quality start, allowing three runs (two earned) in six innings. He tied a career-high with eight strikeouts. He was bested by Leo Crawford (5-0), who allowed just four hits in seven innings.

The Quakes added a pair of insurance runs against Justin Lawrence in the eighth inning, but Lancaster threatened in the ninth. Trejo singled and Nevin doubled to put two men on with nobody out. Brian Serven was hit by a pitch, loading the bases with one out. The JetHawks were unable to score, as Isaac Anderson closed it out for Rancho.

Lancaster was swept for just the second time all season. Inland Empire took three games at The Hangar May 8 - 10. The three losses come on the heels of a perfect 6-0 homestand for the JetHawks.

The JetHawks are off on Monday before returning to Lancaster for three games against Stockton. Ty Culbreth (5-6) takes the mound in game one versus the Ports Tuesday. First pitch at The Hangar is set for 6:35 pm.
