
JetHawks Strike Empire with 14 Runs

LANCASTER, CA - The force was with the JetHawks from the first pitch on Star Wars Night at The Hangar. By the end of the fourth inning, they had a 10-0 lead and went on to beat the Inland Empire 66ers, 14-4, before a season-high crowd of 5,012 at The Hangar.
The JetHawks totaled a season-high 19 hits in the game including three-hit performances by George Springer, Erik Castro, Domingo Santana and Chris Epps.
Lancaster scored a run in every inning except the seventh and every member of the starting lineup had at least one hit.
David Martinez (2-3) put together his best start of the season tossing seven scoreless innings while allowing just two hits. The right-hander retired 14 from the first inning to the fifth inning, a season-high for a JetHawks pitcher.
The JetHawks led 2-0 after two innings. Epps launched his second home run of the season in the second and Santana singled home Alex Todd in the first.
Lancaster put up four runs in the third and fourth. Springer started the third inning with a walk, Castro followed with a single and Santana doubled them both home. He scored on a Rafael Valenzuela triple and later in the inning, Epps drove Valenzuela in on a groundout.
Ben Heath led off the fourth inning with a single, Todd followed with his first hit of the night and Springer drove in Heath with a double. Castro came up next and knocked in two with a single, chasing 66ers starter Manny Correa (3-4) from the game. Castro would later score on a Jonathan Meyer groundout.
Correa suffered his worst start of the season. He allowed ten runs on eleven hits in three innings pitched.
Castro drove in Springer in the fifth inning with a two-out double. It was Springer's third run scored in the game and Castro's third RBI. In the sixth, Epps tripled over the head of the centerfield Travis Witherspoon to drive in Meyer and later scored on a Enrique Hernandez sacrifice fly to put the JetHawks up 13-0.
The 66ers got on the board with four runs in the eighth inning against reliever Brad Dydalewicz. C.J. Cron had the big hit with a bases loaded two-out double but Brian Hernandez was thrown out trying to score from first to end the inning.
Epps drove in his fourth run of the game in the eighth with a single scoring Santana. Epps went 3-for-5 with a home run and four RBI's. Springer finished 3-for-4 with three runs and an RBI. Castro and Santana each drove in three runs.
The JetHawks (36-33) try to finish up the first half with a sweep of the 66ers (31-38) on Saturday night at The Hangar. Bobby Doran (5-4, 3.79) will start against Lay Batista (3-5, 3.69). First pitch is at 7:00 pm. The JetHawks will give out All-Star posters featuring Springer and Doran to the first 1,000 fans in attendance.
