Lancaster JetHawks News Release

(LANCASTER, CA) - For the second straight night, the JetHawks scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh and rallied for a comeback victory over Inland Empire. Lancaster defeated the 66ers 5-3 in front of 2,593 fans at Clear Channel Stadium Saturday.

The JetHawks drew first blood with a run in the bottom of the first. David Flores ripped an RBI single that scored Albert Cartwright and gave Lancaster a 1-0 advantage.

Lancaster held the lead until the bottom of the third. Chris Gutierrez drew a leadoff walk from JetHawks starter Brad Dydalewicz and reached second base on a sacrifice bunt from Nick Buss. Gutierrez scored later in the inning on an RBI single by Bridger Hunt, which knotted the score at 1-1.

The 66ers capitalized on an untimely error by Cartwright in the top of the fifth. With Justin Sellers on second and two outs, Kyle Russell popped up to the middle of the infield. A miscommunication between Cartwright and shortstop Brandon Wikoff resulted in the ball dropping in and Sellers scored to put Inland Empire in front 2-1.

The JetHawks answered on a similar play in the bottom of the frame. With Brandon Barnes at third base and two outs, Cartwright hit a fly ball into shallow right field that glanced off the glove of Gutierrez. As a result, Barnes trotted home and tied the game up at 2-2.

After Inland Empire reclaimed the lead with a run in the top of the sixth, the JetHawks mounted a comeback in the bottom of the seventh. Wikoff and Cartwright each hit RBI singles and Jay Austin delivered a sacrifice fly as Lancaster scored three runs on four hits and seized a 5-3 lead.

Lancaster's bullpen held the 66ers scoreless through the final two frames to preserve the 5-3 win as Patrick Urckfitz and David Berner each enjoyed scoreless outings.

Dydalewicz turned in his best start of the season. The 20-year-old southpaw allowed four hits and two runs, one of which was unearned, in five innings of work. He received a no-decision. Urkcfitz (1-2) earned the win for Lancaster and Berner recorded his fifth save. Nate Eovaldi (0-2) took the loss for Inland Empire. With the win, Lancaster improved to11-17. The loss dropped the 66ers to 10-20.
