JetHawks Overwhelm 66ers 12-5

(LANCASTER, CA) - Facing a four-run deficit through three innings of play, the JetHawks offense scored 11 unanswered runs and captured a 12-5 victory over Inland Empire at Clear Channel Stadium Saturday. It was the JetHawks third straight win and their ninth in past 11 games. After the two teams traded runs in the opening frame, Inland Empire scored two runs in the second and two more in the third off JetHawks starter Robert Donovan. Ramon Jean hit a sacrifice fly for the 66ers in the second and Scott Van Slyke drew a bases-loaded walk, one of six walks issued by Donovan in two and 2/3 innings pitched. Johan Garcia hit a two-run homer off Donovan in the third to extend the 66ers lead to 5-1.

The JetHawks struck back with four runs off 66ers starter Jon Michael Redding in the bottom of the fourth. Mark Ori and Brandon Barnes each hit RBI doubles in the inning and Brandon Wikoff added an RBI single.

Two innings later, Lancaster exploded for five runs on six hits and seized control of the contest. Brian Pellegrini hit a two-run single to give Lancaster the lead and Andy Simunic provided insurance with a two-run triple. Ori chipped in with an RBI double and the JetHawks had a lead they would not relinquish.

Kyle Godfrey (3-4) tossed three and 1/3 scoreless innings, in which he allowed three hits, no walks and recording two strikeouts, and earned the win for Lancaster. Redding (4-8) was charged with the loss for Inland Empire

With the win, the JetHawks improved to 24-24 in the second half and 47-71 overall. The 66ers fell to 18-30 in the second half and 44-74 overall.

The JetHawks will be seeking a sweep of the three-game series when the teams meet on Sunday at Clear Channel Stadium. Lancaster will start right-hander Kyle Greenwalt (6-6, 5.70 ERA). The 66ers are expected to counter with lefty Aaron Miller (3-4, 2.75 ERA).
