Lancaster JetHawks News Release
RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. - The JetHawks couldn't hold on to a two-run lead in the seventh inning and dropped the final game of a four-game series, 8-6, to the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes on Monday night at LoanMart Field.
Mitch Lambson (1-1) entered the game in the seventh with Lancaster up 6-4 and allowed four runs to suffer the loss. Rob Garvey led off the inning with a triple and scored on a Brandon Dixon sac-fly.
Corey Seager followed with a home run, his third of the series, to tie the game and, after a walk, Jeremy Rathjen hit a two-run home run to break the tie and give the Quakes the lead.
The JetHawks were unable to put up a hit in the final two innings against Quakes closer Blake Smith. Smith notched his fourth save and reliever Gustavo Gomez (1-1) earned his first win.
Lancaster erased an early 2-0 deficit by scoring five unanswered runs. Danry Vasquez reached on an error in the second inning and later came home on a Jordan Scott ground ball. In the same inning, Carlos Perdomo singled, reached second base and scored when catcher Pratt Maynard threw the ball into left field on an attempted steal of third.
The JetHawks added to the lead in the fourth inning when Rio Ruiz singled home Roberto Peña for the first of three runs in the inning. Dan Gulbransen followed with an RBI-groundout and Bobby Borchering finished off the scoring with an RBI-single.
Starter Zach Morton allowed two more runs in the fourth inning in his JetHawks debut. The right-hander allowed four runs on eight hits over 3 2/3 innings.
Reliever Richard Rodriguez struck out six batters in 2 1/3 innings of relief.
The JetHawks (26-19) head to Bakersfield to start a three-game series on Tuesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. from Sam Lynn Ballpark.
