Lancaster JetHawks News Release
(LANCASTER,CA) - The Lancaster JetHawks and the Arizona Diamondbacks announced today the signing of a two-year extension to the Player Development Contract (PDC) between the two clubs. This extension, the first that the Diamondbacks have signed with any California League team, will run through the conclusion of the 2006 season.
"The Arizona Diamondbacks continue to be in the top tier of Major League franchises to be associated with from a minor league operator's viewpoint," said JetHawks President Mike Ellis. "We appreciate the wonderful working and supportive relationship we have with Tommy Jones and his entire minor league staff."
Over the first three years that the Diamondbacks have worked with the JetHawks, Lancaster has compiled a 197-223 overall record, including a mark of 73-67 last year. The JetHawks have made one post season appearance since entering into the P.D.C. with Arizona.
The Diamondbacks have been part of the California League since the 1996 season. That year they sent a small group of players to be part of a co-op team in Visalia. In 1997, Arizona began what was to be a four-year agreement with the High Desert Mavericks. The JetHawks were affiliated with the Seattle Mariners from 1996-2000, the first five years of the club's existence.
Following the 2000 season, the California League experienced a large number of affiliate changes, with eight of the ten teams changing Major League affiliations.
The JetHawks were part of that shake-up and signed a four-year P.D.C. agreement with the Diamondbacks that was set to expire at the end of the upcoming 2004 season. The JetHawks will open the 2004 season at home on Thursday April 8th. The opening eight-game home stand features four games with the High Desert Mavericks and concludes with four games against the Lake Elsinore Storm. Great season tickets and mini-plans are currently available. For more information on the 2004 JetHawks season, please contact the JetHawks at (661) 726-5400.
