Chesapeake Bayhawks News Release

ANNAPOLIS, MD - Major League Lacrosse, the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, announced the weekly award winners for Week 13 of the 2013 season, which concluded on August 4th. The winners are chosen based on outstanding in-game achievements and the Bayhawks rookie defenseman Jesse Bernhardt was awarded Warrior Defensive Player of the Week.

"Jesse Bernhardt continues to improve each week and this was his best game of season in my opinion," head coach Dave Cottle stated. "He played great on ball defense and did a tremendous job of rotating, sliding, and continues to impress me with picking the ball off the ground. He had an outstanding game."

Bernhardt helped guide the Chesapeake Bayhawks to a 12-8 decision over the Rochester Rattlers, earning the home team their fourth consecutive playoff berth. The first-year long-pole out of the University of Maryland led a swarming defense that forced Rochester into a slew of turnovers and poor decisions. Chesapeake turned their defense into offense, capitalizing on multiple transition goals and Bernhardt had two groundballs in the win.

The Bayhawks conclude the regular season at home on Saturday, August 10th against the Charlotte Hounds at 7:00 PM at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. The game will be broadcast live on Comcast SportsNet and streaming on ESPN3.com. Tickets are still available and can be purchased online at www.thebayhawks.com or over the phone by calling the box office 866-99-HAWKS (42957).
