Jersey Flight Look to Rebound After Loss against Albany Empire

TRENTON, NJ - With week two in the books, week three now becomes a gut-check game for the Jersey Flight, who dropped their second game in a row yesterday evening against the Albany Empire by a 60-25 score.

The Flight got two touchdown receptions from WR Jared Dangerfield and one from WR Larry Beavers, plus a pick six from OL/DL Armonti Carey to round out their scoring, and Albany was led once again by WR Darius Prince, who tacked on four more touchdowns to his season total, bringing him to 10 TDs in just two games.

While Jersey was able to clean up most of the mistakes that burned them in the season opener against Carolina, the biggest issue for the Flight was on third and fourth down conversions on the offensive side of the ball.

The team was 1 of 7 on third downs, and 1 of 4 on fourth downs. While Jersey was able to move the ball up and down the field, when they got into the red zone, they faced an Albany team that bent without breaking.

Following the game, Flight coaches and players were unified in their message; plug the holes that need to be plugged, look in the mirror, and get ready to battle. That included team general manger and head coach Terry Foster, who said maintaining the same level of focus all game would be key moving forward.

"We started off the game strong, they scored a little bit and you could kind of see us lose our focus," Foster said. "We've got to maintain and keep our focus. [Albany's] a good football team, they have some good players. Darius Prince is definitely one of the best receivers we're going to see all season. No excuses, we've just got to play better."

Foster noted that the team made some good plays, including a goal-line stop in the red zone early in the game, but the need is now to string good plays into a consistent game.

That sentiment was shared by players, including QB Warren Smith Jr. and WR Jared Dangerfield, who also noted that consistent scoring would help on both sides of the ball.

"We've got to look at the film, and look at all three phases of the game," Smith Jr. said. "I thought we could work on a lot of things for all three phases, but for me specifically, getting inside the five-yard line and scoring. We went up and down the field and moved the ball all game, but we got inside the five with these tight, rounded end zones it's tough."

More succinctly, Dangerfield said it was up to the Flight roster, himself included, to tamp down and lock in for the remainder of the season.

"As a team, we just need to let these outside distractions not affect us during the game. Just need to focus and play together as a team," Dangerfield said. "Trust one another and limit all these mistakes we've been having. I've just got to keep doing better, limit my mistakes as well. Gotta catch every ball that's thrown my way and just do my part."

The Flight will be back at home at CURE Insurance Arena on Saturday, June 12 when they face off against the Columbus Lions. Kickoff is at 7:00 p.m, and tickets available at the following link.
