Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Waterloo, Iowa-Waterloo Black Hawks forward Alex Jensen will be flying to Denmark early next week to prepare for the 2010 World Junior Championships with his country's Under-20 National Team.
"Alex has had so much experience and exposure to international competition at that level, I really expect this could be a great opportunity for him," said Waterloo Black Hawks Head Coach P.K. O'Handley.
Denmark will play in the World Juniors Division I, Group A, one notch below the United States, Canada, Russia, and other teams in the Top Division. Group A games begin on December 14th in France, with opponents including Germany, Japan, France, Slovakia, and Ukraine. The Group A winner will be promoted to the Top Division for the 2011 Championships.
Jensen was skating for Denmark the last time they competed in the Top Division during the 2008 World Junior Championships. This will be his third year participating in the event. His career includes eleven U-20 National Team games, with a goal and two assists.
"Last year, Alex played on the first line," said Denmark U-20 National Team Head Coach Olaf Eller. "He is an excellent skater with very good vision for the game and very good hands, especially on the power play."
At the beginning of the USHL season, Jensen was slowed by an injury. Now on the Black Hawks' active roster, he has contributed a goal and an assist in four games. This marks the third consecutive year and fourth time in the last five years a current or former Black Hawk has competed at World Juniors. Others who have worn international colors include Blake Kessel (USA, 2009), Patrick Divjak (Austria, 2009), Jan-Mikael Juutilainen (Finland, 2008), Siim Liivik (Finland, 2008), and Tomas Petruska (Slovakia, 2006).
