Evansville BlueCats News Release
EVANSVILLE, IN: The Evansville BlueCats are pleased to announce that running back Dale Jennings will return in 2006 for his fourth season with the team. Last season, Jennings led the team in rushing with 635 yards and was second on the team in scoring with 21 touchdowns and one two-point conversion. He also caught 17 passes for 115 yards.
His 635 yards rushing was good for fourth best overall in the league. His backfield counterpart, Otis Shannon ran for 535 yards, giving the pair 1,170 yards. No other backfield tandem rushed for more yards last year, making Jennings part of the most prolific running back duo in UIF history.
Entering his fourth professional season with the BlueCats, Dale Jennings is the only player to be a part of the Evansville BlueCats since the beginning of the franchise. Since he's the only player to have played in each of the previous three seasons, it's no surprise that Jennings owns numerous team records for his single season and career numbers.
Jennings has played in 35 games, five more than any other player in team history. He is the all-time BlueCats leader in rushing attempts, career scoring and touchdowns. He ranks second all-time in rushing yards and third all-time in pass receptions.
Jennings earned UIF Offensive Player of the Week honors last season for his record breaking Week One performance against the Tennessee Valley Raptors. In that game, Jennings ran for 122 yards on 29 rushing attempts, both are single game team records. He also scored four touchdowns and caught two passes for 23 yards.
Jennings is originally from Vincennes, Indiana, where he graduated from Vincennes Lincoln High School before playing college football for Butler University.
During his time at Butler, Dale left his mark on the Bulldogs record book. Jennings was a 1st team All-Conference selection in 2002 when he led the Pioneer Football League with 20 touchdowns and finished third in rushing with 973 yards. The 120 points he scored for Butler in 2002 was the third best single season total in school history. He currently sits in 6th place on the schools all-time scoring list.
After his career at Butler, he joined the BlueCats in 2003 where his teammates voted him the first ever team MVP. In addition to running back, Jennings played several positions that year, including defense. Jennings recorded 10 solo tackles, 1 pass breakup, and 1 interception. On offense he led the team with 44 receptions and was second best on the team with 355 receiving yards.
Due to an injury, Jennings was limited to only 5 games in 2004.
