Jenkins, Corbett Named Week 8 NECBL Award Winners

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Danbury first baseman Andrew Jenkins (Georgia Tech) and Keene right-handed relief pitcher Kaleb Corbett (Louisville) have been named the New England Collegiate Baseball League's (NECBL) Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for the eighth edition of the 2021 season.
Jenkins was at the top of the league in virtually every major offensive category last week, helping Danbury win four more times while pulling within three games of the top of the South Division. The rising junior at Georgia Tech shared the NECBL lead over the past week with nine RBIs and 14 total hits (including a league-leading four doubles) while batting an impressive .519 over seven games. He scored five runs, homered twice and stole three bases. His 1.456 OPS was among the best in the league last week after slugging .889 and posting a .567 on-base percentage. Jenkins had at least one hit in all but one of the seven games he played while posting four multiple-hit outings, including two three-hit performances and one 4-for-5 showing.
After 14 games, Jenkins is batting .367 (18-49) with seven runs, six doubles, two homers and 11 RBIs. He owns a 1.048 OPS for the season while slashing .367 / .436 / .612. The Atlanta native batted .302 in 45 games for Georgia Tech this spring, scoring 32 runs while adding 12 doubles, one triple and nine homers, as well as 34 RBIs.
Corbett came out of the bullpen three times this past week and was lights out for the North Division-leading Swamp Bats. The right-hander first appeared in 1-2/3 frames of scoreless ball in a win over North Adams on June 21 during which he fanned four of the five batters he faced. Two days later, he entered in a higher-stakes situation and worked around a hit while striking out another three batters to earn his first save at rival Upper Valley. One day after that, he pitched a perfect ninth that featured two more strikeouts to secure a one-run win at Sanford and yet another save. His 0.27 WHIP was the second-best in the league among all pitchers who threw three or more innings last week, while his 22.091 K/9 was the fourth-best in the NECBL last week. His final line for last week featured nine strikeouts over just 3-2/3 scoreless innings, no walks yielded and a .083 batting average against.
The rising sophomore at Louisville is now up to five saves on the summer; through 12 appearances, he has struck out 28 over 17-2/3 innings. The Louisville native appeared in 17 games (1 start) for the Cardinals as a rookie, pitching to 33 strikeouts over 27-2/3 innings with four saves and a 3.58 ERA.
