Jeff Martens Joins Sundogs for Upcoming Season

PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - The Arizona Sundogs announced today that forward Jeff Martens has joined the club for the upcoming 2011-12 Central Hockey League season. Martens becomes the ninth forward signed by the team this offseason and 13th player overall.
Last season the 28-year-old Martens (MAR-tens) appeared in 52 games for the CHL's Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs, scoring 15 goals and adding 19 assists. In the postseason the Mudbugs went on to claim the league's President's Cup Championship in seven games over the Colorado Eagles.
"He's a physical presence and he can score goals," said Head Coach Marco Pietroniro. "I like what he has to offer in order to make our team better and we're excited to have him."
The upcoming season will be Martens third as a pro. He career began in 2009-10 where he played 22 games for the Columbus Cottonmouths of the Southern Professional Hockey League and another 39 games for the ECHL's Johnstown Chiefs. He totaled 35 points that year on 15 goals and 20 assists.
Prior to turning pro, the Maple Ridge, British Columbia native played two seasons at Augustana University and three at the University of Western Ontario.
Martens spent three years of junior hockey in the British Columbia Hockey League.
