Jay Brophy Named Coach Of AIFL'S Canton Franchise

The Atlantic Indoor Football League is proud to welcome former Miami Dolphins and New York Jets linebacker Jay Brophy as Head Coach of the league's newest franchise in Canton, OH.

Brophy previously served for three seasons as head football coach at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School in Akron, OH. His team was an Ohio State Athletic Association State Semifinalist in his first season in 2001 and made the state playoffs in 2002. He was an assistant coach at the school from 1997-2001.

He graduated from the University of Miami with a Bachelors Degree in Physical Education and was a letterman in all four years of play with the Hurricanes. He was a team captain in his junior and senior seasons and was part of Miami's 1983 NCAA National Championship squad. Brophy also earned Most Valuable Player honors in his junior season and was named a US All-American in his final campaign.

He then played three seasons with the Dolphins (1984-87) and started on their Super Bowl XIX in his first season as well as being named the team's Rookie of the Year. In 1987-88, he played his final professional season with the Jets.

He began coaching high school football in Akron, OH as the defensive coordinator and wide receivers coach at North High School from 1990-92. In 1993, he served as assistant coach for three seasons at Malone College in Canton, OH, where his 1996 team won a divisional championship.
