AIFL Holds Successful Owners Meeting & Player Combine

Published on January 17, 2005 under American Indoor Football Association (AIFA) News Release

The Atlantic Indoor Football League held a very successful Owners Meeting and league-wide player combine Janaury 16 at the Canton Memorial Civic Center in Canton, OH.

Canton has recently been named one of the league's newest inaugural franchises.

Owners of AIFL teams were informed of several lucrative league sponsorships, which will be finalized within the next few days, according to AIFL President Andrew Haines.

The owners also worked on a rough draft of the league's first schedule of games, beginning April 1. The schedule is currently waiting the approval of the home arenas of each team before being publicly released.

At the combine, over 50 players from around the country attended and made themselves eligible for the league's first-ever draft, to be held January 22 in Washington, D.C.

Any player who has attended one of the league's combines can be selected by AIFL franchises during the draft, which will last 10 rounds. Each team will choose one player in each round. Results of the draft will be posted on the league's website as selections are made.

Haines said response to the league around the country is extremely positive.

"It's just amazing how much interest there is from players around the country who want to be part of the AIFL's first season," said Haines. "Phones at the league office and throughout the league have been ringing off the hook and my e-mailbox has been full many times with players wanting information about teams, tryouts, everything. It's amazing!"

"The AIFL is going to be the best thing that's ever happened in professional indoor football."

The Atlantic Indoor Football League is the hottest new professional football league and will kickoff its inaugural season April 1, 2005.
