Jax Closer To Final Roster

PORTLAND, December 5, 2007 - The Portland LumberJax have released forward Ryder Bateman, transition players Graham Palmer and Brodie Barfoot and defenseman Kevin Reid, as was announced today by Head Coach/General Manager Derek Keenan.

Bateman was the longest tenured player to be released after spending the past two seasons with the Jax. Bateman was seventh all-time for the Jax in goals scored (18), assists (24), points (42) and games played (27). Lat season, Bateman scored nine goals, added 15 assists and spent a franchise-high 50 minutes in the penalty box.

Palmer scored one goal, added five assists and collected 56 loose balls during his rookie season in 2007.

Reid signed a one-year contract with the Jax on September 9. The Langley, British Columbia native spent the past three seasons playing for the Maple Ridge Burrards of the Western Lacrosse Association. In 46 career games with the Burrards, Reid scored 12 goals, added 16 assists and spent 213 minutes in the penalty box.

Barfoot was drafted in the sixth round (No. 72 overall) by the Jax in the 2007 National Lacrosse League Entry Draft. The Owen Sound, Ontario native played for the Orillia Rama-Hammind Kings of Major Series Lacrosse's Junior A League this past season, scoring one goal and adding an assist in nine games of action.
