
Jasper Scores Overtime Goal To Give Rangers 7-6 Win Over Spitfires

The Kitchener Rangers put an end to the Windsor Spitfires playoff winning streak after a 7-6 overtime win in Windsor. The Rangers take a 1-0 series lead.
Chris MacKinnon put the Rangers up 1-0 after netting a high shot at 2:13 of the first period. Windsor's Marc Cantin buried a wrist shot from the point to tie the score 1-1 by 7:18. Kenny Ryan gave the Spitfires the lead just past the midway mark to be followed up with a goal by Cam Fowler at 14:11 to make it 3-1 Windsor. Jeff Skinner answered back with two goals for the Rangers to level the score 3-3. Skinner's first goal was on a Kitchener power play at 15:59 and his second goal came after he backhanded his own rebound with 50-seconds left in the period.
The Rangers and Spitfires each put up three more goals in the second period to tie the game 6-6 after 40-minutes of play. Ryan opened the scoring just under the 2:00 mark with his second goal of the game to give Windsor a 4-3 lead. Ryan Murphy regained a 5-4 lead for Kitchener after scoring two in-a-row, the first a power play goal at 5:15 and the second just past the midway mark. Zack Kassian tied the score again 5-5 with his third goal of the playoffs at 17:22. Jason Akeson responded just over a minute later to re-aquire the lead for the Rangers. Justin Shugg countered back with 8-seconds left in the period to tie the game at 6-6.
After a scoreless third period Jonathan Jasper scored his first goal of the playoffs and the game-winner at 9:49 of overtime.
The Rangers return to The Aud on Saturday, April 17th for game two of the Western Conference Finals at 7:00pm.
