Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
BOSSIER CITY, LA - The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs of the Central Hockey League are proud to announce the appointment of former player Jason "Soupy" Campbell as the team's new Vice President & General Manager, the club released today. Campbell joins a number of other new hires in a revamped Mudbugs front office for 2010-11.
"I'm thrilled about bringing 'Soupy' on board to lead our office staff," said owner and team President Tommy Scott. "He helped this franchise succeed on the ice for all those years, and now he's going to help us continue to improve our business operations as well. Not only is he someone who everyone knows and loves, but most importantly, he's a Mudbug through and through. I look forward to working with him on a daily basis."
Campbell, 35, played his entire pro hockey career with the Mudbugs, spending seven seasons in purple and teal before retiring in 2008. "Soupy" and his family have since remained here in Bossier-Shreveport, where he has stayed close to the hockey team while running his own business.
"I'm extremely excited to once again be a part of the Mudbugs organization, the Bossier-Shreveport community and the CHL," Campbell said. "I've been looking to get back involved in hockey ever since I stopped playing, and this will be a great opportunity to do that with the team and area that I know and love."
"I want to help this community get even more excited about Mudbugs hockey while we build on our already loyal fan base and strong business relationships. The front office staff has been raising the bar to increase our service level with fans and partners. We're going to continue our tradition of being the hardest working team, both on and off the ice."
Campbell's hockey resume features two WPHL President's Cup Championships and he was named the 2001 Playoff Most Valuable Player after leading the league in postseason scoring. One of just six players to appear in at least 400 games as a Mudbug, he is also the fifth-leading scorer in team history with 296 points.
"The first step to being successful is to surround yourself with quality people, and 'Soupy' immediately fits the bill," said Head Coach Scott Muscutt. "As a player, you could always rely on him because of a great attitude and work ethic. I have no doubt that those qualities will translate to his work as a GM. Jason Campbell loves this game, he loves this team and he loves this town. What more could you ask for?"
Campbell has already begun his work in the Mudbugs front office along with a number of other new faces this summer: Jordan Wilson as Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Kimberly Jacks as Marketing & Sponsorship Activation Coordinator, Chris Catanzaro as Director of Ticket Operations, Ashley Hemmila as a ticket Account Manager and Julie Hines as the Receptionist.
They join CHL Broadcaster of the Year & Communications Director Travis Huntington, In-Game Entertainment Coordinator Todd Edwards, Account Manager Jeff Czachowski and Controller Gina Smith to comprise the Mudbugs office staff. The hockey operations staff remains intact, with Muscutt continuing as the most tenured coach in the CHL. He is joined once again by Equipment Manager Billy T. Welker and Athletic Trainer George Bullock Jr., ATC.
"I'm very excited about the people we've got in place in the front office and in hockey operations," Scott said. "The season is approaching fast, and we're starting to build momentum for what is going to be a fantastic 14th year."
