Kenai River Brown Bears News Release
The Kenai River Brown Bears' Jack Gessert scored 2:58 into overtime to beat the Janesville Jets, 4-3 (OT).
Kenai River came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Brown Bears fell behind 3-1 after a power play goal by Janesville's Cullen Munson at 9:26 in the second period. Kenai River knotted things up at 3-3 on a goal by Gessert at 10:27 in the third period.
Kenai River additionally got points from Justin Bofshever, who also registered one goal and three assists. Other players who recorded assists for Kenai River were Gunnar Goodmanson and Joey Sardina, who each chipped in one.
The Jets' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Kenai River power plays. The Brown Bears were unable to stop Janesville from sending pucks towards the net, and the Jets eventually piled up 40 shots on goal.
Janesville also got points from Joey Rutkowski, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Roberts Smits also scored for Janesville. In addition, Janesville received assists from Adam Winborg, who had two and Nils Rygaard and Martin Sundberg, who contributed one each.
Brian Baker rejected 37 shots on goal for Kenai River. The Brown Bears incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Jack LaFontaine recorded 16 saves for Janesville. The Jets incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
