
Jan Hernandez Eclipses Second Cycle in Monarchs Victory

KANSAS CITY, KAN. - The Kansas City Monarchs defeated the Lake Country DockHounds 18-10 at Legends Field Friday evening.
By looking at the box score, one can imagine that a lot of runs were scored in the contest. In fact, Kansas City scored in every single inning as they put up 18 runs at home.
The scoring began in the first inning when Jan Hernandez doubled and plated Chad De La Guerra. This would be the start of another huge game for Hernandez as he hit the cycle for the second time this season.
Lake Country began their scoring in the top of the second when Wilfredo Gimenez drove in Jake Snider with a double. In the next half inning, Pete Kozma and J.C. Escarra both homered, except Kozma touched every base on an inside-the-park homer. The score at the end of the inning was 5-1 Monarchs.
After a double steal by Lamar Briggs and Zion Pettigrew in the third, Tristen Carranza scored one with a sacrifice fly. Two more runs would come across for the DockHounds and highlighting the inning was an RBI triple by Gabriel Noriega.
The next highlight play would come in the fifth inning when Hernandez triple, scoring Sweeney. He later scored off a sac-fly by David Thompson. After the fifth concluded, the score was 12-5 for Kansas City.
Things started to look up for Lake Country when Gio Brusa touched them all on a grand slam in the seventh inning Gimenez singled scoring Snider for the fifth run of the half inning. The DockHounds narrowed the lead to four runs by the seventh-inning stretch.
Jan Hernandez would complete the cycle in the eight with a 2-run shot that stayed fair around the left-field foul pole. The score would end 18-10 in favor of the Monarchs.
The DockHounds will wrap up their series in Kansas City on July 16th at Legends Field, with the first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m. After the contest, the 'Hounds will have two days off before a 6-game homestand.
