Jamestown Jammers News Release
Jammers batters struck out 12 times and mustered only three hits in a 4-2 loss to the Batavia Muckdogs.
Jamestown had just one hit over the final six innings, a bunt single by Brent Keys with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning. Ten of the last 12 batters to come to the plate against relievers Chase Reid and Jose Rada struck out.
The Jammers took the lead in the bottom of the third inning, scoring two runs on two hits off Muckdogs starter Nick McCully. Danny Black drove in a run with a single and Luis Bryan hit a sacrifice fly to shallow left center field to make it 2-0.
Batavia cut the lead to 2-1 with a run in the top of the fourth and tied the game in the top of the sixth off reliever Isaac Morales. The run was charged to starter Adam Veres, who allowed two earned runs in 5.2 innings of work.
In the top of the seventh, Batavia scored twice to take the lead. One run was charged to Morales, who picked up the loss, and the other to reliever Jeremy Heatley. He allowed a two-out, two run double to Muckdogs first baseman Victor Sanchez. The hit put Batavia up for good.
Sanchez wasn't originally in the starting lineup, but he came in to play first base in the bottom of the first inning after Jon Rodriguez was ejected in the top of the frame. Rodriguez was called out at first by field umpire Carlos Torres, who ejected him after an argument.
The Jammers had no answer for Reid and Rada, who combined for four shutout innings of relief. Reid picked up the win and Rada earned the save.
The series continues Friday at 7:05 pm. Luis Chirinos is scheduled to start for the Jammers against Zach Russell for the Muckdogs.
