-SPIKES WELCOME DOUBLEDAYS TO TOWN: The State College Spikes face the Auburn Doubledays tonight in the first game of a three-game set tonight at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. State College took two of three games against Auburn at Falcon Park earlier in the week. The Spikes lead the all-time series, 22-21.

-LAST GAME: State College battled through a two-run deficit and a 29-minute rain delay in the ninth inning to tie the game, but Mahoning Valley scored to in the eleventh to take a 6-4 win last night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. The Spikes came back in the ninth without the benefit of a hit, but Matt Curry's walk in the frame extended his on-base streak to 18 games. Quinton Miller, in his last Spikes start, allowed one run over five innings.

-CAIN TO MAKE FIRST SPIKES START: Left-hander Colton Cain makes his first start and third overall appearances for State College tonight. The Waxahachie, TX native has thrown two scoreless innings so far for the Spikes, allowing just one walk and striking out two. Cain, the Pirates' eighth-round draft choice in 2009, went 0-1 with a 3.77 ERA in four starts for the Gulf Coast League Pirates earlier this year.

-STRICKLAND GETS THE BALL FOR AUBURN: Left-hander Sam Strickland makes his seventh start of the year tonight for the Doubledays. Strickland took on the Spikes this past Saturday and allowed six runs on nine hits and three walks while striking out two over 3.2 innings. The Houston native was the 25th-round pick of the Blue Jays in 2009 out of Texas A&M-Kingsville. Strickland has put up a 7.56 ERA in July after not allowing a run in June.

-STREAKING CURRY EARNS NYPL HONORS: Spikes infielder Matt Curry was named the NYPL Player of the Week for July 12-18. Curry has an 18-game on-base streak, and hit .571 (16-for-28) with 7 runs batted in over the period of time for which he won the award.
