Charleston, SC - Charleston Battery midfielder Kevin Jackson has been named to the A-League Team of the Week following his goal and assist last Friday night in the 5-1 win versus the Rochester Raging Rhinos. Jackson assisted on Greg Simmonds 51st minute strike then scored Charleston's final goal in the 90th minute. It was Jackson's first goal of the season and his third assist.
Jackson is in his second season with the Charleston Battery; in 2003 season he played 29 games and tallied 1 goal and 1 assist. In 2002, Jackson played for the South Jersey Barons of the D3 Pro League. Jackson was drafted by MLS's Chicago Fire in 2000 but played his first two professional seasons with the A-League's Hershey Wildcats where he was a teammate of Steve Klein.
The Pittsgrove, NJ native was a four-year starter at Lehigh University where he was a three year regional All-American. Lehigh progressed to the NCAA tournament in Jackson's senior year where they lost to Virginia in the first round. Jackson graduated with a degree in political science.
Battery set for weekend series with the Mariners
The Charleston Battery heads to Virginia Beach Friday for an 8:00 PM match versus the Virginia Beach Mariners (FOX Sports World / Newsradio 730 WSC / www.charlestonbattery.com). Both teams return to Charleston Sunday for the second match of the series at Blackbaud Stadium; kick off is set for 6:00 PM. The Battery and the Mariners have played twice so far this year with both Clubs posting a win. The Battery defeated Virginia Beach 2-0 at home on May 11 then lost 2-0 on June 22 in Virginia Beach.
