Jacks Top Generals to Earn Series Split

The East Texas Pump Jacks rebounded from game one loss, scoring eight runs and stealing eight bases to earn the series split with the Victoria Generals Sunday night.

The East Texas Pump Jacks ended the weekend on a high note with an 8-3 victory over the Victoria Generals Sunday night at Historic Driller Park.The Pump Jacks notched their eight runs on eight hits, including a three-run fifth, and a four-run sixth to pull away from the Generals.

Mitch MeyerandMark Mathiasboth picked up two RBI on two hits, whileConnor Huesersled the way with three RBI.Joey Armstrongreached base successfully in all five of his plate appearances and stole two bases. The Pump Jacks ran all over the Generals swiping eight bases on eight attempts. One night after committing six errors, the Jacks defense showed up in force, led byNate Esposito, who was dominant behind the plate, throwing out three Generals attempting to steal.

The Pump Jacks broke onto the board in the third inning. Meyer sparked the offense with a broken bat single to center, and moved to third on a double ripped to left by Armstrong. Huesers grounded into a fielder's but Meyer read the play well and scooted home for the first run of the game.

The Generals took the lead away in the fifth adding three runs, but the lead was short lived as the Jacks followed in the bottom of the frame with three of their own.

In the fifth, Armstrong worked a one-out walk, and Huesers hit a groundball by the dive of the Generals third basemen doubling home Armstrong for the first run of the inning. AfterBeau Daywas hit by a pitch, Mathias came through with the big hit, a double to right center, driving home Huesers and Day to give the Jacks a 4-3 advantage.

The offense rolled on in the sixth tallying four more runs to take the commanding 8-3 lead. The inning opened with Esposito being granted first after getting hit by a pitch in the back, andBret McAfeereaching on an error by Drew Featherston at second. Meyer picked up two RBI with a triple to right center, his first of the season. Armstrong was hit by a pitch, the fourth of the night, and then Connor Huesers knocked a fly ball to center, deep enough to score Meyer. Day drove in the final run of the game with a groundout, pushing the final margin to 8-3.

Riley Tolerhad another solid start for the Jacks to pick up his second win in a row. In five innings pitched Toler allowed three runs (one earned), on five hits, two walks, and fanning two.J.J. Franklinrelieved Toler and pitched two scoreless innings with one hit, one walk, and two strikeouts.Don Sullivanpitched a 1-2-3 eighth on nine pitches before giving way toBen Mordinifor the ninth. After hitting back-to-back batters to start the inning, Mordini departed andKenny Oakleycame on to finish. Oakley was able to work out of the jam, retiring the next three batters in order with two strikeouts to strand both runners and end the game.

After having Monday off the home games continue as the Jacks welcome the Brazos Valley Bombers for a two-game series Tuesday and Wednesday.

The homestand concludes on Wednesday forKids Are Free Night, where Kids 12 and under get into the game at no charge!
