East Texas PumpJacks News Release

The East Texas Pump Jacks ended their last road trip of the regular season on a high note with a 7-5 win over the Acadiana Cane Cutters. Devon Conley went 2-for-2 and Matthew Dickey picked up his record tying 39th stolen base.

The East Texas Pump Jacks moved back over .500 with a 7-5 win over the Acadiana Cane Cutters Wednesday night. With the season winding down, the Jacks are preparing to defend their 2012 title in the post season. The Jacks took an early lead and decided to give the bullpen regulars the night off.

Jordan Price started the game on the mound for the Jacks, on a limited pitch count, and picked up his first win of the season. Price pitched four innings allowing only one run on two hits while collecting three strikeouts and stranding seven runners on base.

New Pump Jack, Christian Baker relieved his LeTourneau teammate and pitched a solid 2.1 innings in his first appearance. Baker retired the first six batters he faced before allowing a single and a walk to end his night. J.J. Robinson, normally a catcher for the Jacks, then took the bump and finished the game to earn the save in his first appearance on the mound. Robinson allowed two runs on four hits and struck out three in his 2.2 innings of work.

Devon Conley lead the offense going 2-for-2 with a walk, a RBI, and two runs scored out of the nine hole.Mark Mathias contributed three RBI while going 1-for-3.

The Jacks got on the board first in the top of the third, taking advantage of three Cane Cutter errors. Conley led off the frame with a double, his second extra base hit of the series, and moved over to third on a ball off the bat of Matthew Dickey that was misplayed for the first error of the inning. Dickey then grabbed second for his 39th stolen base of the season, tying the TCL single season record.

Mathias singled and beat out the throw to first, allowing Conley to scamper home. The throw to first sailed wide resulting in Dickey, who read the play well, coming home all the way from second to give the Jacks a 2-0 lead. East Texas added another run on the third error of the inning to take a 3-0 lead. After a walk to Garrett McMullen, Joey Armstrong grounded into a fielder's choice to erase Mathias at third, but yet again the Cutters attempted to throw to first and the throw sailed wide, allowing McMullen to score from second.

The Jacks added two more in the fourth thanks to back-to-back bases loaded walks. Bret Bitow got things going with a single into right for the only hit of the inning. Beau Day followed with the first of four walks. Conley battled at the plate and worked a 12-pitch walk to load the bases. Dickey picked up the third walk of the inning to plate Bitow, and Mathias followed suit, showing his patience at the plate to walk in Day and give the Jacks a 5-0 advantage.

Acadiana responded in the bottom of the frame to get their first run of the game thanks to a bases loaded walk. However, Price was able to limit the damage and work his way out of the bases loaded jam to end the inning, picking up two strikeouts along the way.

The Jacks answered back to extend the lead adding a run in the sixth and seventh inning on a pair of sacrifice flies. In the sixth Conley once again got things started with a lead off single and moved to third on a passed ball and a wild pitch. Mathias picked up his third RBI of the game with a sacrifice fly to score Conley. In the seventh, Armstrong reached first on a single under the glove of the Acadiana short stop to open the frame. Nate Esposito was hit by a pitch, and Bitow walked to load the bases for Conley. The Texas Tech outfielder added to his night with his first RBI on a deep fly ball to score Armstrong and put the Jacks ahead 7-1.

The Cane Cutters added two in the seventh, one in the eighth, and one in the ninth, but the Jacks were able to shut down the threat and sneak away with the 7-5 win and the series split.
