Odessa Jackalopes News Release

BLAINE, MN - The Odessa Jackalopes (1-2-1) opened their four-game series at the 2018 North American Hockey League Showcase with a frustrating loss the Austin Bruins (1-0-0) by a score of 4-3.

For the third time this season the Jackalopes scored first, off a brilliant play by Vaclav Zidek down low who fed the puck out in front to James Crossman. Crossman, a veteran from last year, took a hard slap shot that beat the Bruin net minder Kyle McClellan.

The Bruins tied the game up 1-1 off a rebound with nine seconds left in the first period.

The second period was largely in favor of the Bruins, who struck twice for two goals (one coming on the power play) to take a 3-2 lead.

The Jacks stormed back though, after a nice passing play, Eric Huss was able to tap-in a pass in close to trim the Bruin lead to 3-2.

The third period seemed to be going in the Jacks favor, until an unforced turnover in the defensive zone to Carson Riddle found him all alone on Alex Camarre. Riddle made no mistake on his shot and scored his first goal of the season, giving Austin a 4-2 lead.

Odessa refused to give up though and showed great resiliency in the latter half of the period. Rex Moe trimmed to Bruin lead to 4-3 after he received a pass alone in front of the net. Moe had the poise and presence of mind to stop the pass, go to his backhand and score top-shelf.

Moe's third goal of the season gave the Jackalopes momentum heading into the home stretch. But despite a six-on-four man advantage in the closing moments, they were unable to force overtime.

The Jackalopes will play again on Thursday, September 20 when they face the New Jersey Titans for their second game as part of the NAHL Showcase. Face-off is set for 10:30 am.
