Odessa Jackalopes News Release
ODESSA, TX - In the finale of a two-game weekend series, the Odessa Jackalopes shot out to an early 3-0 lead, but surrendered eight unanswered goals the rest of the way, falling to the Amarillo Bulls by an 8-3 final score on Saturday at Ector County Coliseum. With the loss, Odessa's sixth in a row, the Jacks fell to 4-16-2 overall this season and with 10 points, remain alone in sixth place in the NAHL's South Division standings.
In a stirring offensive display to start the game, the Jackalopes grabbed a 3-0 lead on goals from Ryan Doucet (from Jalen Krogman and Lawrence Cornellier at 4:35 on the power-play), Cornellier (from Krogman and Cody Slocum at 7:07) and Taylor Portner (from Anthony Olguin and John Feemster at 7:32) to chase Amarillo's starting netminder Collin Delia from the Bulls' cage. The Odessa advantage proved short-lived however, as the Jacks promptly gave it back later in the period on goals from Amarillo's Tyler Gernhofer, John Rey and Omar Mullan to send the game into the first intermission tied at 3.
In the middle frame, the Bulls pressed on, adding tallies from TJ Sherman at 8:34 and Matt Sieckhaus at 14:24 before early third period goals from Ryan Cole and Carter Penzien sealed the deal for Amarillo. Odessa managed just six shots on goal in each period and were outshot in the game by a 67-18 margin.
In his third consecutive start for the Jacks, Odessa netminder Phil Heinle stopped 46 of the 51 shots he faced through two periods before Blake Wojtala took over in the third and made 13 saves in relief. With the loss, Odessa fell to 0-6-0 against Amarillo in 2012-13 and 0-15-0 against the Bulls all-time in the regular season.
Next up for the Jacks, it's a two-game weekend series with the Texas Tornado that gets underway at 7:05 pm on Friday at Ector County Coliseum.
