Jacks Come up Short to El Paso in Game Two, 4-3

Last night the Jacks entered the second-straight game of the 3-in-3 series versus the Rhinos. They had their three-game win streak snapped with a 4-2 loss on Thursday. The game one win also ended the three-game losing streak for El Paso. With no other South teams in action on Thursday, Odessa went into game two still tied with New Mexico for second place in the division.

The first period was dominated by the Rhinos as they put up 15 shots on Alex Proctor. Proctor was playing in his sixth-consecutive game which is the most for him this season. El Paso scored the first goal of the game 13:36 into the opening period. That goal was scored by Frank Tafelski (4). Only :21 seconds later and Bo Cosman (3) beat Proctor to put the Rhinos up by a pair. With 1:08 left on the clock, Alex Krause (9) let one fly from the top of the right point that wound up reaching the back of the net. His goal marked the most in the first period for the Rhinos this season. Shots after 20 minutes were in favor of El Paso, 15-6.

The second period was a complete 180 for the Jacks as Emerson Goode (9) scored 3:33 into the middle period. Less than four minutes later Rylan Yates (5) went on a breakaway and beat Lassi Lehti. The score would remain 3-2 El Paso when the horn sounded ending the second period. The Rhinos led in shots after two periods, 28-20.

The Jacks were able to tie the game shortly past the halfway point in the final period. Rylan Yates (6) was at the top of the crease and easily put it past Lehti. It was the first multi-goal game for Yates in his NAHL career. With a tie game and less than a minute left in regulation, it appeared the game was going to extend into overtime. Although, El Paso had other ideas. Odessa was unable to clear their zone on a few chances which led to Maksis Brimanis (2) retrieving the loose puck and flipping it past a sprawled-out Proctor. El Paso finished the game with 38 shots and Odessa had 36. The Rhinos went 0/1 on the power play and the Jacks went 0/3.

The Jacks are now 14-9-0-1 (29PTS) and sit in third place. El Paso is in sixth place with a record of 11-10-2 (24PTS). The Rhinos are seeking their third-straight win tonight which would be a season-high for them in their inaugural season. The Jacks are now 3-3 against the Rhinos this season. Both teams have scored 18 goals against one another. The Rhinos have scored at least three goals in each of the last four games against the Jacks. Odessa looks to avoid being swept tonight for the first time this season. The puck drop is scheduled for 7:15 pm CDT.
