Jackrabbits' second half win string halted

DANVILLE, ILL. - First baseman Caleb Stayton of Ball State University doubled and drove in a run as part of a three-hit night Tuesday, July 5, but it wasn't quite enough to keep the Kokomo Jackrabbits as the Prospect League's lone second half unbeaten.
The host Danville Dans battled back from a 5-2 deficit after four and a half frames to force extra frames and posted the winning score in the 10th behind a double, an error and a wild pitch for a 6-5 decision. Stayton's three hits were part of an 11-hit attack, as outfielder Griffin Harms of Wayne State University, second baseman Logan Barnes of the Indiana University - Southeast, and third baseman Connor Dall of Butler University each added two safeties.
Starting pitcher Sean Kiley of Oberlin College and relief hurlers Quentin Miller of Butler University and Parker Sanburn of Indiana University nearly enabled the Gold and Brown (19-16 overall, 4-1 second half) to leave Danville Stadium unscathed despite a rough fielding night of six errors. Kiley went five frames and gave up three earned runs on four hits with two strikeouts, while Miller was the first call for field manager Matt Howard out of the bullpen and fired four strikeouts in two innings. Sanburn was very tough on the home side hitters with five strikeouts in two innings of work.
The Jackrabbits, tied with Chillicothe for first in the Eastern Division, resume a three-game road set Wednesday, July 6, at Terre Haute. First pitch on Bob Warn Field inside Memorial Stadium is 7:05 p.m.
