Joliet JackHammers News Release
JOLIET, IL-Nate Sevier (2-2) pitched a complete-game four hit shutout to guide the Joliet JackHammers to a 2-0 victory over the Schaumburg Flyers before 4,349 fans at Silver Cross Field on Tuesday night. Freddie Thon (2-4) and Nick Prosise (1-2) added solo home runs for the JackHammers, who improve to 18-18 with the victory.
Joliet scored the first run of the game in the fourth inning. Thon lifted a one-out solo home run over the right field wall against Flyers starting pitcher Dan Frega (2-3). Joliet took a 1-0 lead.
Sevier was simply sensational for the JackHammers on Tuesday. After retiring the first six hitters he faced, including striking out the side in the second inning, Sevier surrendered his first hit in the third inning when Chris Gaskin (1-3) led off with a double. The Joliet right-hander retired the next 13 hitters before Rontrez Johnson (1-3) ended the streak with a one-out double in the seventh inning. Kurt Crowell (1-3) led off the eighth inning with a single and Jermaine Allensworth (1-4) hit a two-out double in the ninth inning before Victor Burgos (0-1) grounded out to end the game.
Sevier did now allow a walk and struck out 11 Flyers on Tuesday.
In the seventh inning, Prosise hit a solo home run to give the JackHammers a 2-0 lead. Prosise hit his first home run of the season by powering a pitch from Chris Saenz over the left field wall.
Loose Gravel: Sevier tied the JackHammers single-game high in 2008 with his 11 strikeouts. Aaron Trolia set the mark by recording 11 strikeouts against the Flyers on May 27 at Silver Cross Field.
The JackHammers continue their series with Schaumburg on Wednesday night. Steve Shippey (1-4, 8.17) takes to the mound for Schaumburg against Brian Forystek (2-3, 4.76) for the JackHammers. The JackHammers will host Prom Night on Wednesday. The JackHammers will give away a limo package valued at four hundred dollars. The first pitch is at 7:05 p.m. and pre-game coverage begins at 6:50 p.m. on AM 1340 WJOL and online at www.jackhammerbaseball.com.
