
JackHammers schedule set for 2005

JOLIET, IL â The 2005 Joliet JackHammers schedule is now official. The JackHammers open the 2005 season on Friday, May 20 versus the Gary SouthShore RailCats at Silver Cross Field in Joliet's City Center. The JackHammers fourth season begins with a seven-game home stand. Through three seasons of existence, the JackHammers have 142 wins to 133 defeats in regular season play.
The 96-game Northern League regular season features 48 home and 48 away games. The most games versus a single opponent are 14 versus Kansas City, and the fewest games against an opponent will be three versus Winnipeg and Fargo-Moorhead. The league expanded to 12 teams with Calgary and Edmonton being the newest members. The JackHammers are in the newly aligned South Division along with Gary, Kansas City, Lincoln, St. Paul and Schaumburg. The revised North Division features Calgary, Edmonton, Fargo-Moorhead, Sioux City, Sioux Falls and Winnipeg.
The Northern League traditionally has consisted of bus travel to road games, but the JackHammers will fly to Calgary and Edmonton. The JackHammers only trip to Canada in 2005 is also their first road trip, May 27-June 1, with three games at Calgary followed by three games at Edmonton. The JackHammers will not travel to Winnipeg in 2005.
The JackHammers will host the Northern League champion St. Paul Saints on June 3-6 and July 12-14. The Chicagoland rivals will each visit Silver Cross Field twice in 2005. The Gary SouthShore RailCats will visit Silver Cross Field on May 20-22 and June 7-9, and the Schaumburg Flyers will visit Silver Cross Field July 8-10 and August 29-31.
The day of the week breakdown for the JackHammers home games is as follows: Monday (4), Thursday (6), Tuesday/Wednesday (7), and Friday/Saturday/Sunday (8). The longest home stand is seven games (June 3-9). The longest road trip is 11 games (July 25-August 4). The All-Star Break consists of four days, July 18-21, and Gary will host the event. The Northern League's playoffs extend into late September.
