Northern League Announces 2005 Schedule

The Northern League of Professional Baseball announced its 2005 regular season and playoff schedules today.

Each of the 12 teams will play 96 regular season games in 2005. The first half of the season opens on Friday, May 20 and closes on Sunday, July 10. The second half of the season begins on Tuesday, July 12 and concludes on Sunday, September 4.

The Northern League will operate in a North and South Division format again in 2005. The league's two new teams, Calgary and Edmonton will be located in the North Division with St. Paul moving from the North to the South, creating two six-team divisions. The 2005 Northern League Division alignment:

The league will play an unbalanced schedule in 2005. Each team will have 32 games versus its own division and 16 contests against clubs from the other division in each half.

Edmonton-Friday, May 27 vs. Sioux Falls
Fargo-Moorhead-Friday, May 20 vs. Winnipeg

Kansas City-Friday, May 20 vs. Edmonton

The 2005 Northern League All-Star Game will be played on Tuesday, July 19 at U.S. Steel Yard in Gary.

The 2005 Playoff Semifinals open on Tuesday, September 6 with the first two games being played at the home of the first half winners. The second half qualifier hosts the final three games in the semifinals unless one team wins both halves and a fifth game if necessary would take place at that park. The Championship Series begins on Tuesday, September 13. The North Division winner hosts the first two games with all remaining contests in the best of five series being played at the South Division winner's home park.
