JackHammers Pound out 15 Hits in 11-4 Victory

JOLIET, IL - The offense came alive Sunday night as the Joliet JackHammers (20-22) pounded out 15 hits in an 11-4 victory over the Winnipeg Goldeyes (24-19) at Silver Cross Field. The JackHammers avoided the four game sweep and snapped a four game losing streak.

Joliet scored in six of their eight trips to the plate, snapping a 2-2 tie in the fifth with three runs. Josh Flores launched his first home run to give the JackHammers their first lead at 3-2. Brad Correll connected on a two out double and scored on Jon Nelson's long home run to left for the 5-2 cushion.

The JackHammers put the game away with a four run eighth, extending the lead to 11-4. The Orange Crush loaded the bases with one out against Casey Hodges. Freddie Thon lifted a sacrifice fly to left while Chris Colton and Ryan Wehrle smacked RBI singles for the final score.

Devin Anderson (3-1) picked the victory, allowing two first inning runs. The southpaw scattered six hits with two strikeouts and three walks.

The Goldeyes staked Antony Bello (1-4) to a 2-0 lead as the first three hitters reached against Anderson. Wes Long and Price Kendall singled with Juan Diaz knocking home the first run on a double. Kevin West grounded out to short to plate the second tally.

Bello eventually gave the lead back to Joliet, working the first 4.2 innings allowing five runs on eight hits with four walks.

Flores led the JackHammers with two home runs while Wehrle and Jonathan Wyatt collected a game high three hits. Nelson drove in three, connecting on his 11th home run of the season.

The JackHammers improved to 5-6 against Winnipeg with four games remaining in the season series. Joliet will begin a seven game road trip to close out the first half tomorrow afternoon in Lake County. Rory Shortell (1-4) will take the bump for the 1:00 p.m. first pitch. Coverage begins with the pre-game show at 12:50 p.m. on 1340 WJOL.
