JackHammers plate three touchdowns in record-setting victory

KANSAS CITY, KS-The Joliet JackHammers (12-11) pushed across a season-high 21 runs on 24 hits to beat the Kansas City T-Bones 21-4 before 6,192 fans at CommunityAmerica Ballpark on Monday night. The JackHammers scored at least one run in seven of the eight innings they came to the plate against Kansas City. It was the second-time in the past week and the second time on this season-long 10-game road trip that Joliet has set single-game records for runs and hits.

Joliet started its record-breaking night by scoring six runs in the first inning. Doc Brooks (3-7) led off the inning with a solo home run. Nick McIntyre (4-6) reached first base with a single and moved to second base on a walk issued to Juan Diaz (1-5). Cory Harris (1-2) hit an RBI single to score McIntyre for a 2-0 JackHammers lead.

After Freddie Thon (1-5) was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Dorian Rojas (3-6) hit a grand-slam home run to make it a 6-0 JackHammers lead. The JackHammers pushed across a single run in the second inning on a sacrifice fly by Harris.

Joliet scored seven runs in the third inning on just five hits. In fact the JackHammers scored at least one run in each of the first five innings against Kansas City pitching on Monday. The only inning Joliet failed to score a run came in the sixth. Each member of the Joliet starting nine scored at least one run and reached base at least twice. Rojas tied a career-high with five RBI. Brooks hit a single and a triple to go along with his solo home run and three RBI. He finished a double short of the cycle. Wally Backman, Jr. (4-5) also added three RBI for the JackHammers.

Aaron Trolia worked six innings for the JackHammers and allowed two runs on five hits. He improves his record to 5-0 on the season with the win.

Loose Gravel: The JackHammers surpassed their 2008 single-game high of 16 runs and 18 hits set last Thursday in Fargo-Moorhead. Joliet won that game by a score of 16-4.

Joliet will look for the sweep in this brief two-game series that concludes on Tuesday night. LHP Brian Forystek (1-2, 3.65) will make the start for the JackHammers against RHP Rick Rivas (2-1, 3.86) for the T-Bones.
