
JackHammers offense leads team to win

SCHAUMBURG, IL-The Joliet JackHammers (23-21) got 10 runs on 19 hits, including three RBI from Nick Prosise (3-4) to beat the Schaumburg Flyers 10-3 before 8,191 fans at ALEXIAN Field on Thursday night. The JackHammers complete the three-game sweep of the Flyers and are now on a season-high four game winning streak.
Schaumburg scored a run against Joliet starting pitcher David Moraga (6-1) in the second inning. Kurt Crowell (1-4) hit a two-out double and Chris Gaskin (1-3) walked. Dan Maycock (1-4) smacked a single through the left side of the infield to score Corwell for a 1-0 Flyers lead.
The JackHammers tied the game with a single run in the third inning. Nick McIntyre (3-6) singled and advanced to second on a throwing error by Flyers 2B Bo Hart. Hart, who caught a line drive by Doc Brooks (3-6), threw errantly to first base to try and force out McIntyre. Freddie Thon (1-5) hit an RBI single to tie the game at 1-1.
Joliet scored a single run in the fourth inning to take a 2-1 advantage. Dorian Rojas (2-4) hit a one-out double and scored on a single by Prosise. The JackHammers extended their lead to two runs at 3-1 in the fifth inning. Brooks singled and went to second base when Joey Gomes reached first on an error by Hart. Steve Garrabrants (3-5) hit an RBI single to score Brooks.
Bo Hart (2-5) hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning against Moraga to tie the game at 3-3. Lance Koenig (1-4) led off the inning with a single and moved to second base on a bunt by Mark Haske (1-4). Hart hit his third home run of the season to tie the game at 3-3.
The JackHammers scored three over the sixth and seventh innings to take a 6-3 lead. Caruso, McIntyre and Brooks hit three consecutive singles in the sixth inning. Brooks' RBI single drove in Caruso and Gomes laced an RBI to score McIntyre for a 5-3 lead.
In the seventh inning, Joliet executed a breathtaking "squeeze play" to force in the seventh run of the game. Joe Hooft (1-5) laid down a bunt up the first base line to allow Rojas to score for a 7-3 Joliet advantage.
After loading the bases with nobody out in the ninth inning, the JackHammers scored a run when David Byard unleashed a wild pitch that scored Gomes. Prosise hit a two-run double and later scored in the inning to round out the scoring at 10-3.
Moraga pitched six and one-thirds innings for the JackHammers to get the victory. He allowed three runs on eight hits while walking two and striking out four. Tyler Meigs pitched two scoreless innings for his fifth save of the 2008 season.
Loose Gravel: The JackHammers swept a three-game series for the first time in 2008. Joliet previously swept Kansas City in a two-game series on June 9 and 10 at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.
The JackHammers take on the Winnipeg Goldeyes in game one of a three-game series at Silver Cross Field on Friday night. It's the 4th of July with fireworks to follow the game and Empress Casino Flag Book Giveaway to the first 1,000 fans 21 and over. The JackHammers will also give away Mini Flags to the first 1,000 fans 17 and under. Joliet will send RHP Carlos Castillo (0-0, 10.80) to the mound against RHP Brandon Kintzler (4-3, 5.05) for Winnipeg.
