Joliet JackHammers News Release
JOLIET, IL - Todd Privett tossed six innings for the victory as the JackHammers held off the Lake County Fielders 6-4 Saturday night at Silver Cross Field. Joliet will look for the three game sweep tomorrow afternoon at 2:10 p.m.
The JackHammers (5-4) scored six runs in the first three innings against Zach Ward (0-2). The Lake County starter walked the first two hitters and Brad Correll reached on a fielder's choice and error by Joe Ramos, allowing Jonathan Wyatt to score. Jon Nelson floated a single to center and Ryan Basham followed with a sacrifice fly for the early 3-0 lead after one inning.
Joliet added two more in the second on a Freddie Thon single and Nelson ground out. The JackHammers managed one more run the rest of the night, taking a 6-0 lead on a Kevin Rios RBI single in the third.
Lake County (3-7) bounced back with three runs in the fourth off Privett (1-0). Jeff Dunbar singled with two outs and Josh Peterson followed that up with a triple off the left field wall. Anthony Esquer doubled home a pair of runs to make it 6-3.
The Fielders added an unearned run in the seventh on a Sean Teague throwing error after Teague hit Eric Suttle and walked John Delaney. A balk moved the runners to second and third and Joe Ramos hit a bouncing ball off the plate that Teague fielded and threw high to Thon at first.
Drew Shetrone came on in the ninth and again pitched a scoreless frame, striking out two for his second save in as many days.
Privett earned the victory, tossing six innings and allowing three runs on five hits with five strikeouts.
Ward struggled his way through five frames, surrendering six runs (four earned) on four hits with two strikeouts and five walks.
The JackHammers will send Rory Shortell (0-1, 8.31) to the hill tomorrow against John Brownell (0-1, 12.50). First pitch is set for 2:10 p.m. with a 2:00 p.m. pre-game show on the JackHammers Radio Network.
