JackHammers Earn 5-0 Win

JOLIET-RF Joe Gaetti (1-4) his 3rd home run in as many games and RHP Nate Sevier (2-2) tossed seven scoreless innings to help the Joliet JackHammers (29-50) to a 5-0 win over the Winnipeg Goldeyes (47-30) before 5,382 fans at Silver Cross Field on Wednesday night.
The JackHammers scored an early run in the 1st inning against Winnipeg RHP Ace Walker (9-5). 3B Vince Harrison (3-4) hit a two-out single and scored when LF Brad Correll (0-2) reached base on an error after Winnipeg LF Dee Brown dropped his line drive. Joliet took a 1-0 lead.
In the 3rd inning Joliet took advantage of some sweet swinging by Gaetti to take a 4-0 lead. Harrison smacked a two-out single and Correll reached base with a walk. Gaetti smacked a three-run home run over the left field wall to take a 4-0 Joliet lead. He hit two home runs in the 1st game of the series in Joliet's 8-3 win on Monday.
The home club struck again for an insurance run in the 4th inning. RF Tim Alberts (2-3) hit a single and moved to second base on a single by C Christian Lopez (1-3). Harrison hit a single to score Alberts for a 5-0 Joliet lead.
Sevier allowed just four hits while walking three men and striking out five. RHP Chad Blackwell worked a scoreless 8th inning and RHP Drew Shetrone nailed down the win with a perfect 9th inning.
The JackHammers take Thursday off and start a three-game series against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks on Friday night at Silver Cross Field at 7:05 p.m. It's Fireworks after the game sponsored by Aramark. The JackHammers will also host Parrothead Night at the ballpark. RHP Matt Mossey (2-1, 4.80) gets the start for the RedHawks against RHP Rory Shortell (3-5, 5.38) for the JackHammers.
