Elmira, NY-- The Elmira Jackals, proud member of the ECHL, would like to wish you a safe and happy holiday season. The Jackals will be in action 22 times after Christmas day at First Arena. The first will be the day after Christmas, Friday, December 26th at 7:35 p.m. when they host the Johnstown Chiefs.
Division Standings- Entering the game the Jackals (14-12-0-3) occupy fourth place in the North Division while the (19-8-1-0) Johnstown Chiefs are tied with the Wheeling Nailers for the top spot in the division standings.
Third Match Up-This will be the third match up of the season between the two clubs and the first of the year at First Arena. The Chiefs defeated the Jackals 5-3 on the 22nd of October and most recently 4-2 on December 10th. Over the course of two seasons of action the Jackals have compiled a 5-5-0-1 record against he Chiefs.
Winning Note-The Jackals enter the game on a two game winning note with victories over South Carolina (3-2) and Gwinnett (3-2). The Chiefs enter the game with a four point split with the Wheeling Nailers last weekend.
Leading the Offense- The Jackals netted 13 goals in their past five games. Leading the offense is Steve Yetman (11 G 14 A=25 pts), Josh Aspenlind (10G 15A=25 pts) and Pierre-Luc Faubert (9 G 13 A=22 pts). The Chiefs have tallied 98 goals this season with the help of Petr Pohl (12G 18A=30 pts) and Randy Rowe (10G 17A=27 pts).
Masked Men- Jackals newcomer David Shantz has been solid in goal since his arrival, posting a 2-1 record. On the year Shantz has a combined goals against of 2.36 (8th best in ECHL) and a save percentage of 0.92 %. The Johnstown masked men, Chris Mayotte and Ian Keserich, have been solid with a combined 0.91 save percentage and a 2.59 goals against average.
