Elmira Jackals News Release
ELMIRA, NY - The Elmira Jackals, proud member of the ECHL, announced today the signing of defensemen Chad Grisdale and Erick Tremblay for the 2007-08 campaign.
Grisdale, 26, graduated from the University of British Columbia (Canadian Interuniversity Sport) in the spring after appearing in 149 career games with the Thunderbirds. A 6'3, 215-pound stay-at-home defender, Grisdale proved a durable asset during his collegiate career with his 117 conference games played ranking 12th on the Thunderbirds all-time list. Offensively, he netted five goals and 16 assists for 21 career points at UBC.
Grisdale appeared in 122 contests with three different teams, including 75 with the Portland Winter Hawks, in the Western Hockey League from 1999 through 2001 in totaling three goals and 14 assists for 17 points along with 287 penalty minutes. Additionally, he played for the Vancouver Canucks prospects in the team's annual scrimmage against UBC in September of 2004.
Tremblay will celebrate his 21st birthday on Halloween when the Jackals play host to Cincinnati (7:05 p.m., First Arena) and will add another body that checks in at over six feet tall to what is developing as a very imposing Jackal squad. He turns pro after spending the last five seasons with four Quebec Major Junior Hockey League clubs.
After beginning the 2006-07 campaign with Val-d'Or (QMJHL), the 6'4, 210-pound blue liner was traded after seven games to Victoriaville (QMJHL), appearing in 54 games with the Tigres. Overall, Tremblay posted a pair of goals and 15 points along with 99 penalty minutes. In his professional debut, Tremblay scored a goal in his only appearance with the Fort Wayne Komets (UHL) in the 2007 Colonial Cup playoffs.
Tremblay is a former teammate of Pittsburgh Penguin superstar Sidney Crosby as both skated with the Rimouski Oceanic (QMJHL) during the 2003-04 and 2004-05 seasons.
