Jackalopes Re-Sign Top Scorer Mike Rutter
July 28, 2003 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Odessa Jackalopes News Release
Call him "Rutter"...or call him "Rooter". Either way, make sure you call him a Jackalope.
The Jacks have re-signed forward Mike Rutter...the team's top scorer last year...for the 2003-04 Central Hockey League season.
"When a player is your top scorer and an outstanding all around contributor, it's critical that you bring him back if at all possible," said Head Coach & Director of Hockey Operations, Don McKee.
Rutter led the Jacks to the CHL Southwest title with 70 points (22 goals _48 assists) and led the club with 10 power play goals.
"We're optimistic that Mike will be even more productive this season than he was a year ago," McKee said. "That means we have very high expectations for 'Rutts,' because he was the leading scorer on our hockey club last season.
The 26-year-old Ontario native enjoyed an outstanding, 4-year career at Cornell University (1996-2000), scoring 28 points (11+17)in 32 games in his senior season.
"The Jackalopes have an excellent track record with players who bring a strong collegiate background," McKee noted. "Mike is a great example of that success."
"Mike is a gifted skater, which makes him very explosive offensively," McKee said. "But he's also a 'team player,' and that's critical to our team chemistry."
"Re-signing Mike Rutter was a priority for our hockey club, an dhe will be a key to success."
