Jackalopes Emerge Victorious in Shootout 3-2 in Topeka

TOPEKA, KS - The Odessa Jackalopes turned the tables on the Topeka Pilots as the Jacks emerged victorious 3-2 in the shootout to close out their three-game series at the Kansas Expocenter.

The pilots got on the board first after a long shot for the Jackalopes blue line that was partially saved by Jacks goaltender Alex Camarre but the puck skipped up over his shoulder and into the back of the net to make it 1-0 Topeka.

The Pilots started to come on later in the period but several big saves by Camarre kept the Jacks within one going into the second period.

In the second Zach Heintz broke out for two goals to put the Jackalopes ahead.

Heintz scored from a hard shot on the right side of the offensive zone that beat the goaltender low glove side. Heintz's first goal came in the early stages of the second period.

His second goal came in the late stages of the period on a similar play.

After receiving a lead pass from Kellen Tharaldson, Heintz skated up the right side into the offensive zone and sent a hard shot that sailed into the back of the net.

Heintz's two goal period put the Jacks up 2-1 after two periods.

In the third period, the Jacks had some good offensive zone time and good scoring chances. They could not convert however and the Pilots were able to tie the game off a goal-mouth scramble while on the power play.

With the game tied at the end of regulation the teams played a five-minute three-on-three overtime. Both teams had some chances but Alex Camarre made several great saves to keep the game tied.

In the shootout the Jackalopes' Michael Sacco scored for Odessa while Camarre was perfect and led the Jackalopes to secure three points on the weekend.

With the win the Jackalopes improve to 14-21-1-1 on the year as they get set to host the Lone Star Brahmas for a two game series at the Ector County Coliseum to close out the month of January.
