
It's Official - Chicago Blaze Women's Professional Basketball Moves to Naperville

Naperville, IL - The Chicago Blaze of the National Women's Basketball League (NWBL) today officially announced it is moving to Naperville, IL. The team has reached an agreement to play its home games at Merner Field House on the campus of North Central College. "We're very excited about moving to the western suburbs, and the reception we've received has been well beyond our expectations," said Robert Graham, General Manager of the Blaze. "We're looking forward to a partnership with North Central College, as well as partnering with the businesses, schools, and community residents. We hope that the Blaze becomes a hometown favorite."
Entering its third season, The Chicago Blaze has a 20 game schedule including 10 home games. The season home opener is scheduled for Sunday, January 18, 2004 at 3 p.m. against the Colorado Chill. Tickets go on sale via the Internet on November 15, 2003 at www.chicagoblaze.com.
The Blaze will be led by Coach Cheryl Littlejohn. Coach Littlejohn has over 13 years of coaching experience, including head coaching stints at Chicago State and the University of Minnesota. Assisting her will be local native Donald "Taps" Gallagher. "We feel fortunate to have Coach Littlejohn and Coach Gallagher joining our team - they are dynamic leaders and inspirational coaches," commented Graham. "They will be very positive for our organization."
Entering its fourth season, the NWBL provides women across the country, including women competing in the Women's National Basketball Association ("WNBA"), the opportunity to play professional basketball during the winter months. Other franchises in the NWBL include the Birmingham Power, the Colorado Chill, the Houston Stealth, the Springfield, Massachusetts Spirit, and the Tennessee Fury. Although not affiliated with the WNBA, the NWBL attracts many of its standout players. Previous draws from the WNBA have included Sue Bird, Swin Cash, Sheryl Swoopes, Rebecca Lobo, Becky Hammon, Tina Thompson and Tamika Catchings.
