It's Bowden time as Cavalry take game one of the CBA Finals

February 5, 2009 - Continental Basketball Association 1 (CBA 1) - Lawton-Fort Sill Cavalry News Release

ALBANY, NY (February 5, 2009) - In a game where one player almost scored half of his teams points, the Lawton-Fort Sill Cavalry took Game One of the 2008-09 CBA Finals with a 125-115 win over the Albany Patroons. DeAnthony Bowden erupted for a CBA Finals record 62 points to lead the way for the Cavalry.

Bowden, a 2004 Creighton graduate, shot an amazing 19 for 25 from the field. He was also 10 for 11 from behind the three-point arc. Bowden's 62 points breaks the former record of 60 previously held by Tico Brown in 1983 for Detroit and is third all-time in CBA history. Jacky Dorsey had 66 points for Maine in 1983 in an overtime contest. Both Don Collins and Ron Valentine had 63 points in a 48-minute regulation game. Bowden's 10 three's breaks the previous record of nine by Darren Henrie in 1993 for Grand Rapids.

The Cavalry jumped out to a 32-24 first quarter lead as Bowden chipped in 25 points for Lawton-Fort Sill. The hometown Patroons were not to be deterred as the climbed back into the game with a 34-20 second quarter to take a 58-52 halftime lead. Lawton-Fort Sill then took the third quarter 39-31 to lead after three quarters 91-89 lead. A tough back and forth fourth quarter saw the Patroons get to within three twice before the Cavalry pulled away for the 10-point win.

Shawn Daniels had 20 points and Brandon Dean had 16 points for the Cavalry to go along with Bowden's 62 points. Albany was led by Shawn Fountain's 26 points. Rod Nealy had 24 points and Mike Campbell and Harvey Thomas each had 22 points in the loss.

"I just wanted to come out and set a good tempo early," said Bowden. "I got it going and it just kept going in for me. My teammates kept looking for me and I got great looks all night."

"DeAnthony was unbelievable," stated Cavalry Head Coach Michael Ray Richardson. "He couldn't miss tonight. We all just jumped on board and he got the win for us. All we need is one more for the Championship."

"What more can you say," said Patroons Head Coach Derrick Rowland. "Bowden had a great game and my hat is off to him. We will regroup tomorrow and make some adjustments for Saturday."

Game Two of the CBA Finals will take place on Saturday, February 5, 2009 at 7:00 pm EST at the Washington Avenue Armory in Albany. The game will also be webcast through the CBA and Lawton-Fort Sill Cavalry websites.
