Ironmen Suffer Tough Loss

The Jamestown Ironmen suffered a disappointing loss Friday night, falling to the Soo Eagles by the score of 7-3 in North American Hockey League action at the Jamestown Savings Bank Arena.

Soo (26-8-3) jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first period and headed into the first break with a 3-1 edge after Aaron Scheppelman put Jamestown on the scoreboard with assists from Evan Ritt and Ryan Doucet.

Jamestown (23-9-3) was outscored 3-1 once again in the second period. The Ironmen goal came from Tyler Dunagan off of assists from Michael Mazzotta and Ryan Urso. The two teams traded goals in the final period of regulation as Luc Gerdes netted his 17th goal of the season for the Ironmen with assists from Kenny Curtis and Doucet.

Although Jamestown outshot the Eagles, 39-26 on the evening, the hometown team lost the special teams battle. Soo scored four powerplay goals on six chances while the Ironmen couldn't convert on any of their six powerplay opportunities.

Ironmen goaltender, Blake Wojtala started his first game in front of the hometown fans, but was yanked in the first period after letting up three goals on ten shots. His replacement, Tim Shaughnessy was credited with the loss and let in four goals on 16 shots the rest of the way.

"Our players are definitely upset, but we can't dwell on it," said Ironmen Head Coach Dan Daikawa. "The next game is the big game now, and we have to play better as a team in order to win."

Daikawa was referring to tonight's rematch between the two top dogs in the NAHL North Division. The Ironmen are now in second place and six points behind the Eagles in the standings, but have a pair of games in hand on the division leaders.

With a win tonight, Jamestown will cut the lead to four points and set themselves up to make up the rest of the deficit with their two games in hand. Though, if the Ironmen suffer another loss, they will be set back even further from the division leading Eagles.

Tonight's game will begin at 5pm at the JSBA and will represent a pivotal point for the Ironmen season.
